Why did Jesus instruct his followers to react passively when attacked?
To retaliate when being attacked has never fully solved a problem. "Two wrongs has never made a right" therefore Jesus instructions ot His followers to react passively, signifies humality. Its through humality that many a problem can be solved or solutions found. The eye for an eye scripture forbids us from visiting excessive severity upon an individual. Through passiveness and humality, there is more to be gained, then lost.

Why is it evil to use oaths?

The Jewish leaders of the day were trying to appear to be holy('I will take a sacred oath!"),and trying to get people to believe them, but had no intention of keeping their oaths.Jesus was to "shake them up" so to speak, for He was talking to liars and hypocrites. Matthew 5: 33-37 were what was spoken by Jesus on taking and making oaths and not fulfilling it. Jesus said it would be better never to swear an oath at all than to use it like the Jewish leaders were, to sin.I believe God wants me to use my eyes and my oaths the right way, not to eliminate them completely. For a lawful oath consist in calling upon God, the occasion being of sufficient seriousness and importance, to witness the truth of what we affirm as true.Hence an oath is an act of supreme religious worship since it recongnizes the omnipresence, and omniscience, absolute justice and sovereignty of the Person whose august witness is invokes, and whose judgement is appealed to as final.  It hence follows that it is a sin equivalent to that of worshipping a false God if we swear by any other than the only true and living God; and a sin of idolatry if we swear by anything or place, although it may be associated with the true God.

Why is it Jesus speaks so strongly against divorce and remarriage?

The bible teaches us  that marriage is a lifelong union between one man with one woman. As the idea of covenant is a bibical concept used to describe the relationship between God and His people, and defined as an unchageable, divinely imposed legal argreement between God and man, so is the vows taken between man and woman in marriage.Malachi 2:13-16, gives us a good insight into the how God feels about divorce. Both man and woman stipulated in their vows, before God to be faithfull to each other, whatever the situation they may find themsleves in.We must understand that the covenant between God and man cannot be changed or negotiated to suit man, for our God has Honoured His side of the covenant by having faith in us, it is for us to honour our side of the deal by doing His will. Mark 10: 6- 9 give us a good indication of what is expected of us in marriage, and verse 9, I find to be one of great significance, " What therfore God has joined together, let no man seperate." Divorce is not only a violation of Gods original plan for marriage, but it also violates the marriage covenant to which the Lord is witness.
