Why is giving in secret more to be commended that giving where people can see it?

If we give so that everybody can see, there is a tempory improvement on how other people perceive you and in fact you have done good to others.

People have short memories and sometimes brief lives and will forget your good deeds. Therefore for motives of just doing good deeds, we don't need to be identified by anybody but by God who will take note.

self defence

God says Vengeance is mine yes true BUT we also have a right of self defence and preservation of own lives and that of innocent people.

What that is saying is dont revenge the evil God will take care of that but in a moment of decision making where there there is a real and impending danger of harm or life defend yourself

What makes it so difficult to love our enemies? Bonus Question: What happens when we love our enemies?

It far easier to hate one's enemy and some of us even forget the reasons for the hatred but we continue to hate anyway.

Jesus seperated the old Jewish faith from the His new testament by teaching love of one's enemy which is a key difference between the faiths.

It is hard to be kind to an enemy but it can have a profound effect on one's enemy and one's self.

Some of the reasons for the hatred can lose their meaning and new friendships are struck
