What makes it so difficult to love our enemies? Bonus Question: What happens when we love our enemies?

I love my enemies but only to some extent. It is difficult to love one's enemy but we all know that only a heart which is free has resources for others. When you keep hate inside you, at times you come to hate yourself. We find it hard to love enemies because we fear they are very capable to repeat their actions, we humans look at the outside. It is not easy for me to believe that someone reallt changed or repented. I always forgive, love, but keep that distance or rather I love my enemies from the inside to prevent that friendship that can make them come back closer to me.

What happens when we love our enemies.

It has to be a huge blessing because God loved us without a price. Still, God is our great worrior, when we do love our enemies and they continue chasing after us, there is no doubt that God will arise to defend our cause. When we love our enemies we live a free life because when you are living light in the inside, the outside is happy.

Passive
It is actually active to turn the other cheek and is much harder than to react negatively.

Why did Jesus instruct his followers to react passively when attacked?
Jesus had to act as an example to the Gospel He was preaching. If Jesus had decided to react violently towards the attackers, it woulad have gone on through the entire New Testament because He set the pace at which the disciples worked after He was takena way from them. Jesus had the power to even just strike them by word, but He came to set a new agenda.
