To me fasting normally helps me renew my relationship with God. I normally fast in those days when I feel that I am drifting away from God, when I do not feel the presence of the Holy Spirit even when i pray. It is good to fast, because as Jesus said, one will not be alive because of food alone. We also need the word of God, and when we do fast we are able to listen more to the voice of God simply because we are more focused.

Why fast?

Fasting in its'self is good for our health. There are some mountains that cannot move however much one tries to go to the presence of God. In these cases one needs to fast or rather humble your self before God without food, and He will quickly notice because when you are not eating on a normal day away from everyone else, it seems to attract the attention of God. When I begin a day's fast, however big the burden am carrying is, by the end of my day, i just find that my heart is so light even without much prayer during the course of the fast.
