I think He was only trying to test them, seeing if they could spread word about His power, or choose to conceal it. And because the chief priests were after Him, sometimes Jesus chose to work in secrecy, not wanting them to disrupt His ministry before the time comes.

What was Jesus trying to teach people when He deliberately violated the Sabbath in order to heal people? Jesus did not violate the Sabbath, Jesus rather was trying to show people that God was more than the Sabbath because He owns it. Jesus Himself is the Lord of the Sabbath, He knows that one gains more in doing good on this day, than doing wrong in the name of respecting it. Jesus was simply trying to say that, Sabbath or not, the Lord is always at work.
