Why did Jesus speak to the people in parables, rather than just stating things directly?

Jesus spoke in parables because He wanted to direct His messages to only those whom the wisdom of the Kingdom of God had been revealed. However much one can be intelligent, he/she can't understand God's word, unless you accept His wisdom or secrets to be revealed to you. Jesus knew that there were such people in the crowd that always went along with Him, and so His teachings couldn't be wasted.

How does doing the will of the Father make people like relatives of Jesus?

Jesus said those who do the will of the Father shall no longer be called slaves, but friends to the Kingdom of Heaven. Some friends come so close and in turn become relatives. This also applies to Jesus. God said that all nations that are called by His name shall be His own people.

Why was it evil for the scribes and Pharisees to ask a sign from Jesus?

Jesus put in a lot of time to perform all the miracles the scribes and the Pharisees needed in oerder to believe. If these people could not believe the gosple, atleast they did not have an excuse not to believe the miracles. These were enough signs, and I think that's why Jesus was angry that He did more to make them believe, but they still insisted for more. He knew that they could never believe.
