Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

I think He had to suffer separation from God physically as well as emotionally to show that the sins He died for were physical and emotional.

Also He had to show us that the pain we feel when we are separated from God He knows.

Maybe He had to suffer physical and emotional pain for his persecutors to feel He has really suffered to pay for what they accused Him of.

Why does Jesus tell the growing crowd that one must be willing to renounce everything, including one`s own life, to be Jesus` follower?

When one accepts Jesus, it's a must to be "born again". This means that you denounce the old life and adopt the new way, living and doing what is good, in line to the cross. In this, one has to forget what he loves most, and put Jesus at the front, accepting Him to dictate your way of life.
