Why do you think the priests, scribes, elders did not answer Jesus? The priests and elders were afraid to be stoned by the people because people would know they had disobeyed God`s laws when in the case of John te Baptist.

Why do you think the priests, scribes, elders did not answer Jesus? The scribes and elders were afraid to tell the truth, because they had not believed John the baptist when he taught about God`s kingdom. The scribes and prophets also did not want to acknowledge that some of the actions were prescribed/ ordered by them and not God through prophets.
