Can you explain the word picture Jesus uses (vs. 27) about how to rob the house of a strong man?

We must first defeat the strong man of the house (Satan and his power) before we can rob his house. I take this to mean by defeat is to overcome the temptations of evil, thereby overcoming Satan himself and thus defeating him and conquering evil in our lives.

Jesus became very popular. People came to see Him from all over for all kinds of reasons. Can you list some reasons why the crowds could be following Him?

His miracles, his preaching which is very new to the people and opposite of what the Pharisees preached, and his casting out of the demon and his healing. In contemporary times, I am sure that the same reasons above would draw crowds if Jesus were to come down to earth a second time in this age.
