What is Jesus trying to teach with this parable? Hint: The vineyard (where grapes are grown) is Israel; The farmer is God; the servants are the prophets who were sent by God; the son is Jesus; and the tenants are religious leaders of the Jews.
Jesus is trying to illustrate how men did not believe the prophets God had sent them  and even killed the prophets and the message they brought.  He is also illustrating that God sent as a last resort His own Son but the people still rejected him and killed Him.  But despite all this, God's mercy and love is all encompassing. Jesus, after his death and resurrection, became the cornerstone and foundation of what is now Christianity.

Why did Jesus answer their question with a question? Why didn`t he just say that his authority came from God?
Jesus knew that the priests were trying to bluff and entrap him into an answer they could use against him.  So He used their own game on them.  Since they replied they did "not know", it showed their ignorance and their superficiality and they did not deserve an answer - whether it be the truth or the lie that they wanted to hear Jesus say so it could be turned against Him. He could easily have said his authority came directly from the Father, but he knew that these people would not believe Him anyway, so He chose not to say anything.

Jesus taught that both believing and forgiving are key to effective prayer. Why do you think they are important?
Becuase if you believe you trust the lord with all your heart and if you forgive you obey the words of GOD....
