What did Jesus imply by saying, "This is my blood of the new coveneant, which is poured out for many."? Consider that the Passover was a Jewish festival that remembered when a plague of death "passed over" the home of those Jewish people who marked their doors with blood from a lamb. Jews remembered this day with a feast of unleavened bread. The wine symbolized the blood of Jesus which was shed for the salvation of the people. The new covenant replaces the old one of the Old Testament. The new covenant is that anyone who receives Jesus is saved from eternal damnation. His blood and body which was sacrificed for us replaces the old covenant's sacrifice of a lamb.
