Mary felt joyful and it was a confirmation of what the angel had told her, that she would carry and bear a child who would be the Messiah. The shepherds' news about angels singing to them confirm the good news that a Saviour is born. The fact that she pondered these things in her heart indicates that. I also believe that Mary felt blessed to have served God in this way. I would be too if it were me.

What was Mary feeling right before Jesus´ birth? Note: She is described here as an unwed pregnant woman, who was forced to travel away from her family, only to deliver her baby in a barn? I think Mary had great faith and trust in the Lord. She neither displayed emotions nor feelings of fear and apprehension, instead, she replied to the angel that she is the Lord's servant and the Lord can do with her as He has said. Being unwed and pregnant in those times would be difficult, open not only ridicule and prosecution, but Mary had great faith and trust and bore all these things, even the hardship of traveling away from her family and giving birth in a barn. I think deep in her heart she knew that the Lord would take care of her and she obeyed the wishes of the Lord.

Define "Salvation" ? Note how Zachariah (the father of John the Baptist) praises God for fulfilling an old promise (oath/covenant) that "we...should serve him (God) without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life." Salvation means bing free from the bondage of sins. God gave His only begotten Son to redeem us from eternal damnation. Jesus is our salvation because it was through Him that we now have the chance to be with our God, the Father, in heaven, as we end our journey here on earth.
