Why does Jesus tell the growing crowd that one must be willing to renounce everything, including one`s own life, to be Jesus` follower? To be a true follower of Jesus, one must give up himself completely and totally to God; meaning he must be ready to turn away from all his worldly ties and possessions. Jesus requires total trust and obedience. You cannot do it partially or half and half. That is our cross to bear, the giving up of everything in this world, money, loved ones, possessions,career, etc. if we choose to follow him and be his disciple.

Why does Jesus tell the growing crowd that one must be willing to renounce everything, including one`s own life, to be Jesus` follower? He tells the crowd about it because we can't be his disciples unless we are willing to submit to Him. In order to follow Him we must take our own cross, we must be not just hearer but at the same time we must be bearer of His Light and Love to everybody. To be his discipline we must willing to live according to His Will.
