Galilee must have been a sinful (therefore dark) place in those days inhabited by sinners who did not know the Lord. The coming of Jesus and his preaching is like a light that opens the eyes and hearts of the sinners to repent and know the Lord. Jesus' preaching is of love, truth, purity and kindness. This is like a light that illuminates the path to Him and opens our eyes and hearts to God.

Why was it important for Jesus to go through a time of temptation? Because Jesus is the son of God as well as a human. He has to go through these test in order for Him to prove His obedience to GOD in human form. As a man or in the flesh, Jesus is capable of sinning and tempted by the ruler of this world-which is satan. Jesus proves to the Father that He is not capable of being tempted or a bit of sinning. He is totally obedient to the mission the Father God gave HIM.
