How is Jesus` teaching like fresh wine requiring fresh wineskins? Jesus means that you have to change your whole being when you follow Him and not just parts of yourself. You need to give up all of yourself to Him. He will pour into you new wine (salvation) if you renew your life and attitudes totally like a new wineskin, not just a makeover.

Why did Jesus choose Matthew, a known taxgatherer and a despised man, to be His disciple? Jesus said He came to heal the sick. He chose Matthew because in those times, a tax collector was known to be a sinner and hated by people. Jesus was demonstrating that He came to save a sinner (Matthew) and give Him salvation and a new life.
