Why do you think Jesus chose, after he rose, to show Himself first to Mary Magdalene? It was all in God's Plan to be first seen with Mary Magdalene..

What type of circumstances are there today that might lead one to be a disciple of Jesus, but in secret, like Joseph of Arimathea? There are many. Communist countries with repressed regimes make it difficult for Christian and believers of Christ to come out into the open. Myanmar is one, so is China. I personally know of friends in these countries that are secret Christians and worship God in secret and in stealth.
