Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? Jesus as both man and God knew what is the difference between the two, He wants us to experience the pains He himself suffers because He wans to make man learn that sin is painful and that we must not do it and avoid it.
