Why does Jesus call "Love One Another" a "New" commandment?

Because this is what not all people have practiced to. People tend to be selfish and sometimes, they discriminated the persons who do wrong(s) to them. In addition to this, we feel like we are always right which is infact, we forgot the word "self-righteous".

How does the host respond when people reject his dinner invitation in order to pursue their possessions and relationships?

I believe that it is just normal for a host, who had given out invitations for dinner and had prepared very well for it, to feel sad, hurt and disappointed when his invitations were rejected because the people he invited prioritized their own personal interest and plans. It is really a painful thing to be rejected and ignored and snubbed.

What does Jesus mean that "Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted"?

Jesus meant that we should not be proud, boastful, conceited, so self-righteous and have a high regard for ourselves. But instead we should be humble and simple. Let the others acknowledge and appreciate the good things about ourselves. And we should not do good to others for our own selfish interest of being repaid and acknowledged. We should be good for the sake of being good, not expecting anything in return from them, but simply because we want to please God who sees and knows everything. Besides, its the love and reward of God which is the most important, more than anything in this world!
