33570 entries for this category: fasting, from what i've read is more about self sacrifice for others, meaning giving of your time and resources than not eating. this was a man made tradition long ago. just like the roman catholic church made up the tradition and then turned it into law that priests can not marry. i don't believe there is anything wrong with fasting, Jesus fasted, but it is not a biblical command. What is so good about fasting? Why fast? It brings us closer to God by self sacrificing. To get prayers anawered, to get a closer walk with God.

Why is giving in secret more to be commended that giving where people can see it? Because giving in secret means you are giving because of the desire to benefit someone or something. It is coming from the heart and not for the purpose of letting people know that you are doing something for the publicity of it. God knows your true intention.
