What is so good about fasting? Why fast? If you are truly fasting, you will be clensing yourself of something bad. It may be food or it may be an act that you were used to doing. It may even be giving up a way of thinking and by giving up these acts, you are showing a committment to our Heavenly Father and asking him to look favorably down upon you.

Why does God appreciate prayers in secret more than public prayers? When you are praying in private, it is communications strictly between you and our Heavenly Father. God knows what you need and will provide for you when you are dedicated to Him. I do not believe that God will look down on us for praying in a public setting and thanking him for all that he provides but I do think it is hypocritical to ask for favors that are not beneficial to your relationship with God.
