How did Joseph know it was a real angel appearing to him in his dreams, and not just , for example, indigestion? Joseph was a man of faith. he obeyed everytime an Angel of the Lord appeared to him. Also back then when God sent messengers to people it was a very vivid experience.

Why did Herod try to kill Jesus? Since the wisemen told Herod Jesus was a king, Herod feared that Jesus would over throw his throne. Herod was not aware the of the kingdom of which Jesus is a King.
