Why do you think Jesus chose, after he rose, to show Himself first to Mary Magdalene? Jesus appear to Mary Magdalene because Mary since the beginning of her new live forgiven by Jesus she was always with Jesus and believed strongly in him. She was now looking for Jesus even in the tomb while the rest are scared and some of them sleeping.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? It wasn't ofcourse the way Jesus desired, BUT He had to do this for us to understand. Man's mind doesn't always believe things that are not pictured (that's why He always used parables), man would never repent without something that strongly touches and affects him, which is seeing Jesus tourtured. So it was a stronger evidence that Jesus was ready to give His life for us.
