The Roman governor, Pilate, found that Jesus had done nothing wrong. Yet, he authorized Jesus` crucifixion to please the crowd. Can you explain why people put popularity above doing what is right?

I think that people choose popularity over doing what is right because they are always do the desire of the majority to be fair. In this Case, Pilate he did what the Jews desired because Jesus was not under his authority. Above all this had happened to fulfill the will of God that Jesus came to the world to give himself for our salvation.

When Peter realised he had denied knowing Jesus, why did he cry?
Peter realised he had denied knowing Jesus and he cryed because he felt sorrow and guilt as he promised Jesus that it wouldn't happen for him to deny him even if it meant he had to die with him.
