How does Jesus link intimacy to him with obedience to him? a New commandment?

Tough question.The world may understand love as a good feeling for someone where nothing is expected in return, with our selfish needs.But the lord tells us to obey His commandements to get loved by Him as a way of response to what He did for Us, otherwise we wouldn`t have means to appreciate Him and continue our relationship with Him.

Why does Jesus call Love One Another a New commandment?

It is called a new commandment because the previous ones, if someone hates you , you arenot expected to love Him back.But the Lord doesnot work that way.He has to love us with no return, therefore, as Jesus`s deciples we should go along with this new rule, that we love one another, as he loved us.
